Everyday life

Learning to say no

Being a good girl doesn't mean agreeing with everyone.

3 min

Many girls agree to things they don't want because they're scared of upsetting someone. But your feelings count too.

How to say it

  • Keep it short: No, I don't want to.
  • You don't owe a long explanation.
  • Say it calmly and look at them.
  • Repeat the same words if you have to.

Hard moments

A friend wants to copy your homework, or a group wants you to laugh at someone. To buy time, say: I need to think. Someone who makes you feel bad isn't a friend.

If someone threatens you or makes you keep a secret, tell an adult you trust straight away.
