How to do a classic braid
Three strands, one rhythm. Practise a few times and your hands will learn it.
3 min
A classic braid is the base of every other braid. Learn this one and the rest get easier. Brush your hair well first, because tangles won't braid.
Step by step
- Gather your hair behind you or over one shoulder.
- Split it into three equal strands: left, middle, right.
- Cross the left strand over the middle. It is now the middle strand.
- Cross the right strand over the new middle.
- Keep repeating to the end: left, right, left, right.
- Tie the end with a hair tie.
Small secrets
Pull the strands evenly and the braid stays neat. Don't pull too hard or your head will ache. For a fuller look, gently tug the edges of the braid with your fingers at the end. If your hair is slippery, dampen it slightly.
